Salary range: £58,400 - £73,000 per annum DOE + Benefits
Location: UK Hybrid - Glasgow, Gosforth, Leeds, Edinburgh, Chester or London. 
Contract type: 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

Our Team

The Risk & Control Team within Customer Operations are the driving force behind risk management and control excellence within Customer Operations, ensuring risk management activities are aligned to the Bank’s overall strategy, with appropriate governance in place to maintain risk policies, procedures and controls and ensuring good outcomes for customers. 

The Senior Business Control Manager is responsible for driving the delivery of excellent customer experiences by leading on the design, development and implementation of best practice risk and control management across Customer Operations with a specific focus on Risk Reporting & Insight. The successful candidate will join an exciting, motivated, and high performing team who really make a difference to Making our Customers Happier about Money.

In this fast-paced environment, your decisions will directly impact our commitment to exceptional customer experiences, whilst ensuring the safe delivery of operations that will protect our data, customers, and shareholders.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work collaboratively with the Customer Ops teams, supporting the proactive development and implementation of risk procedures and routines to ensure that operational control weaknesses inherent in existing processes are identified, evaluated, and managed in all areas of operations.
  • Drive improvement in control effectiveness and application through engagement with Customer Ops Risk SME to ensure control activity reflects the risk profile of the business area and is targeted appropriately and evolving alongside  business changes.
  • Design and complete thematic assurance activity to provide an independent risk view on BAU activities such as action pre closure, post implementation or emerging themes.
  • Line Management of a team of 2 Risk Specialists.
  • Lead and/or contribute to initiatives, projects or working groups to improve the management of risks in Customer Operations as required.

We need you to have

  • Financial Services risk professional with previous experience in a related role at similar level.
  • Proven business acumen with expert knowledge of Risk & Control Frameworks and Reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment facing the Financial Services sector, Virgin Money UK and COO
  • Ability to lead with purpose, build strong team relationships and develop an empowered team.
  • Demonstrable success in building effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders at function or divisional level.
  • Effective facilitation and influencing skills.

It’s a bonus if you have but not essential

  • Recognised risk or audit qualification(s) (e.g., Institute of Risk Management).

If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
