Making Money Magic

Hey Dylan, tell us a bit about yourself

Hello, I am Dylan! I currently work as a Customer Consultant at a Virgin Money Branch. I’m originally from Swansea, Wales and moved up to the North to complete my university degree and I’ve stuck around ever since! I now spend my days working in the bank, playing guitar, and  I now spend my days working in the Bank, playing guitar, and writing plays for my theatre company- I also love watching a good film or going to a gig!  

What brought you to Virgin Money?

When I was at my last job, I wanted to get into something completely different – and unfortunately, I've worked a variety of jobs in the past (chef, guitar salesman, actor, wedding band, warehouse worker etc.) So, finding something new wasn't the easiest task. Luckily, I saw a job ad for Virgin Money and applied and the rest is history!

What do you enjoy the most about being a Customer Consultant within the Branch and what keeps you motivated?

I enjoy working with my lovely team, everyone is incredibly supportive and friendly, which makes keeping happy and motivated at work very easy! You also find that no two days are the same and you find a lot of side tasks to complete along the way which keeps things interesting and exciting!

What is important for you at work and where do you get the most energy from?

I think the most important thing at work for me is keeping morale up and ensuring that everyone (customers and colleagues) is happy and comfortable! Whether that means going on a tea run (definitely the main source of energy) going on a morning walk, or just by having a laugh with each other. I think this is vitally important when it comes to keeping energised and happy.

What simply brilliant customer experience mean to you?

To me, a simply brilliant customer experience is giving each customer what they come into Branch for and more. It’s important to empathise with each person you interact with so you are able to deal with each customer in a personalised way.

What is your favourite word, and why?

The word I tend to use most in my day-to-day work is definitely ありがとう (pronounced arigato) which is Japanese for ‘thank you’. I'm not really sure where it came from, but I don't think a day goes by when I don't say it. I also do enjoy the word ‘Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery-chwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’, the famous Welsh train station.

What is something you think everyone should try in their life at least once?

I think at some point in their lives, everyone should try cheese, gravy and chips. The best combination possible, and most people are too afraid to try it for some reason.

What are you most looking forward to in the next five years?

The next five years could hold anything, and I haven't got the first idea of what it could contain. So, I'm going to say that the thing I'm most looking forward to in the next five years is the unknown – I like that I could be anywhere in five years and doing who knows what.
