Hey Valerie, welcome to VM. Tell us a bit about yourself
Born in Zambia, raised in Scotland—I carry a blend of cultures that’s shaped how I see the world. As a Black woman, my lived experience naturally pulled me toward inclusion work, even before I had the language for it. I’ve always been passionate about fairness, and injustice really hits a nerve. I’m also a mum to a brilliant daughter who keeps me on my toes and pushes me to grow—she’s taught me more than any book ever could.
What inspired you to work within DE&I at Virgin Money?
Virgin Money felt like the kind of place where I wouldn’t have to shrink myself to do big work. Our allyship framework really spoke to me—it’s not just words on a page, it’s an invitation to show up fully and push boundaries with heart. That’s the kind of energy I wanted to be part of.
What is important for you at work and where do you get the most energy from?
Connection, authenticity, and making a difference. I get a buzz from creating spaces where people feel safe to be real—where conversations shift culture. I’m most energised when I see people having braver conversations, challenging norms, and lifting each other up.
What’s something you’re passionate about outside of work?
I am passionate about living life to the full. I LOVE Experiences! Give me a boujee brunch, a spa robe, or an afternoon tea that’s extra and I’m in my element. I love anything that feels like a little celebration of life—even better if it involves great company and a glass of fizz.
