Powered by our Chief Operating Office (COO), the Technology Development Programme is designed to develop your technical and business skills through hands-on projects, specialist training, and real collaboration with expert technologists.  Make your mark in the world of digital finance and join us as we shape the next generation of tech leaders and innovators.

Programme Overview

As part of our COO and Technology function, you’ll help deliver innovative, business-critical technology solutions that keep our operations running smoothly and securely.  This is an 18-month journey which blends interactive learning with invaluable hands-on experience across key areas such as Data Engineering, Infrastructure, and Software Engineering.  You’ll start with a 12-week intensive academy, immersing yourself in your specialist tech area, before transitioning into real-world projects that challenge and inspire.  At the end of the programme you'll secure a permanent role.

Software Engineer

Engineering is where we bring systems to life! We design and build tools that empower the business and collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality solutions for our colleagues. Working in agile and waterfall environments, our engineers are involved throughout the software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on coding and delivery.  Many of our teams specialise in areas like performance and test engineering, aligned to key product domains such as payments, mortgages, savings, financial crime, and a wide range of internal systems.

Infrastructure Engineering 

Our IT infrastructure platforms and technologies underpin all the business services used by our members and colleagues every day.  Infrastructure Engineering is responsible for the design and delivery of all new IT infrastructure, including software environment services, that enable our various Virgin Money business technology domains, plus its ongoing maintenance and support. Our infrastructure provides robust and efficient platforms to our other technology colleagues (our internal customers) as well as encompassing the systems and tools our own teams use to do their jobs.

Data Engineer

Our team of Data and Technology practitioners build data platforms, create pipelines and transform raw data into something that can be used to uncover new insights and inform business decisions. You'll have Opportunities to understand how key data concepts operate in practice, how data flows through the organisation and how it is structured and governed.  You'll develop your knowledge of Cloud, so you can deploy monitor and troubleshoot common services and apply CI/CD principles.
