Balancing Risk & Innovation

"A career within Architecture Governance is both dynamic and impactful. You'll be at the forefront of technological innovation, ensuring that every architectural decision aligns with Virgin Money's vision. You'll be working with the latest technology and frameworks, making sure systems are not just robust but also future-proof. It's a perfect blend of creativity and strategic thinking, where you get to leave your mark on major projects and drive real change.

But that's not all—architecture governance is all about collaboration and growth. You'll be rubbing shoulders with designers, architects, project managers, and senior stakeholders, making your insights and expertise invaluable. The fast-paced nature of this field means there's never a dull moment, keeping you on your toes and constantly learning. If you're passionate about tech and love strategic planning, architecture governance is the place to be."

Gosia Owen, Head of Architecture Governance

Strong Governance for a Resilient Future

"Working in CTO has been a constant learning experience. It means having the opportunity to learn about all of the products and services we offer customers, the technology domains of the bank, and what is happening across the industry. The amount of change happening all over the bank means that things are fast paced, and working with so many colleagues to solve problems keeps things interesting.

I work within the Architecture Governance team where we manage the Technical Design Authority, Architecture Review Board and much more. My favourite part of the role is being able to continuously improve the services we provide to colleague users, and learning new technologies to enable that, like Power Automate, and Power BI. I'm most looking forward to using, learning about, and governing AI - I'm equally interested in the power that tools like Co-Pilot will put in our hands, and mind-blown about what AI means for the future for everyone. I really enjoy working here!"

Future by Design in Enterprise Architecture

"As an Enterprise Architect, I get to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organisation's IT landscape, ensuring it aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives. One of the most gratifying aspects of this role is the ability to drive innovation and transformation. I love working with cross-functional teams to design and implement cutting-edge solutions that improve efficiency and enhance customer experiences.

This dynamic environment keeps me engaged and motivated, as there's always something new to discover and apply. I find that my role offers a great blend of creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking. It allows me to make a meaningful impact to the organisation while continuously growing and evolving alongside the ever-changing technology landscape."

Graham Smith, Enterprise Architect

Strategy for growth

"I really enjoy working in a strategy space, you never quite know what new or novel question will be asked. I'd describe my role being like an internal management consultant - I use my knowledge of the Bank plus useful models and frameworks to answer key strategic questions.  I have helped showcase new technology to business areas, exploring the pain points and opportunities new technology can address for them.  I have shaped operating models for new or changing areas of the Bank and have answered business questions for senior stakeholder or regulators, exploring what it would take to do something new or describing at a high level how something works today.

I love learning about how different parts of the Bank work, and what’s important to the success of our business model to discover ways technology to can unlock even more value."
