A Story of Personal Connection and Shared Values
At Virgin Money, we believe in doing things differently, and Josh's story is a perfect example of why. When Josh applied for the position of Engagement and Culture Data Analyst, it wasn’t just about finding a job – it was about joining an organisation that puts its people at its core. Our commitment to culture and wellbeing deeply aligned with Josh’s own values, creating a connection that was genuinely meaningful. The role itself is impactful, and Josh knew he had to be a part of it. His journey with us underscores our belief that work should be a place where your values and ambitions align. Welcome to Virgin Money, Josh, we're excited to have you on board!
Welcome to the team Josh
Hey Josh, welcome to Virgin Money. Tell us a bit about yourself and how’s it going
I’m 26 and currently based in Sussex. I studied Mathematics at the University of Dundee, and for the past 2.5 years, I’ve worked in data roles within Real Estate sustainability and Transportation software development. Since joining Virgin Money, I’ve been genuinely impressed by the creativity across the business and the strong emphasis on employee wellbeing. It’s been great to get stuck in, I’ve already had the chance to apply my technical skills in ways that add real value to the team. I’m really looking forward to learning more, getting involved in exciting projects, and contributing to the innovative culture here.
What inspired you to work at Virgin Money?
My late stepfather worked for Virgin Atlantic, so the Virgin brand has always felt close to home. I’ve known it as a creative and entrepreneurial group for as long as I can remember, one that values innovation, bold thinking, and putting people first. That legacy left a lasting impression on me, and it’s part of what drew me to Virgin Money.
When I saw the Data Analyst role advertised, it felt like more than just a career move, it was an opportunity to become part of a culture I’ve admired for years. I saw a chance to contribute to a forward-thinking organisation while continuing to grow professionally, develop new skills, and work alongside people who are passionate about making a difference.
Data connecting the dots. What are you looking forward to the most about your new role?
With Virgin Money being a Microsoft Partner, they have full access to Microsoft’s suite of apps. What I’m looking forward to most is using Microsoft Power Platform tools, especially Power Automate and Power Apps, to deliver faster, more cost-effective solutions through no-code and low-code approaches. As a data analyst, I see real potential in these platforms to streamline processes, reduce reliance on traditional coding solutions, and respond quickly to business needs. Automating routine tasks not only boosts efficiency but also frees up time for colleagues to focus on more strategic, high-value work, ultimately driving greater value for the business.
I’m particularly interested in how Power Automate can integrate with tools like Power BI, Excel, and SharePoint to create end-to-end solutions that enhance data accessibility, reporting, and decision-making across the business.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Reading is one of my greatest passions. My bookshelf takes up most of my room, covering a wide range of topics including philosophy, economics, self-help, history, business, value investing, physics, politics, science fiction. I also enjoy going to the gym and eating well whilst experimenting with different cuisines, which has been made challenging after recently switching to a vegetarian diet (I like to think that the cod in the North Sea would approve).
Travel is another big part of my life. I love exploring new places and learning about different cultures, which has also inspired me to start learning Mandarin. I’m currently planning a trip to the Malaysian peninsula and Eastern China later this year, something I’m really looking forward to as a chance to immerse myself in the language and culture first-hand.
It was an opportunity to become part of a culture I’ve admired for years.
